Statement on incident between Joe Berrios’ top precinct captain and Villegas’ volunteer

March 9th, 2015 (CHICAGO)– Gilbert Villegas has released the following statement as it relates to the incident between Joe Berrios’ top precinct captain Dan Pogorzelski and Villegas’ volunteer.

“This past Saturday an unfortunate incident occurred between one of Joe Berrios’ loyalists working for the campaign of Omar Aquino and one of our female volunteers. That incident led our volunteer to file a police report against the Aquino volunteer.

“Unfortunately, our campaign strongly feels that our side of the story has been greatly distorted in this incidence.

“After the harassment of our female volunteer and her boyfriend, one of our volunteers reacted to the continued harassment we have received from Joe Berrios’ organization. Unfairly, the focus of this incident has been about his reaction that was nothing more than an angry verbal outburst. Our volunteer should not have reacted that way, this is exactly what Joe Berrios’ operatives wanted to happen.

“The story that is not being told is that Omar Aquino’s campaign is being run and funded by the same individuals who orchestrated one of the most corrupt campaigns Chicago has ever witnessed, Guzzardi versus Berrios for State Representative. These same individuals are responsible for the smear campaign against Will Guzzardi that tried to imply that Will supported the rights of child molesters. Guzzardi eventually beat Berrios’ daughter by a landslide.

“We have a very important campaign ahead of us and this has only been a distraction from the real issues that we need to discuss. The 36th Ward deserves our full attention right now.
